Why a Live Bluegrass Band for Your Wedding?

A wedding brings together more than a couple – it also brings together young and old, conservatives and liberals, and often people of different faiths. Bluegrass is one of those rare forms of music that appeals to all kinds of folks.

In our travels as a working bluegrass band, we never cease to be amazed by this. One night we’ll be playing to a conservative Christian audience at a church or gospel bluegrass festival, the next night to a crowd of latter-day Deadheads, dancing the night away at a jam-band festival. There’s really no other form of music that can cross boundaries quite like bluegrass, and the reason for this is simple: bluegrass is fun music...and who doesn't like to have a good time?

Why the High 48s?

The High 48s are all veteran musicians who have each played dozens, if not hundreds, of weddings – we know how to get the crowd going. As important, we also know how to make our part of the evening worry-free for you. We show up when we say we will, dress to the nines, bring and set up all our own equipment and put on a memorable show—all at very reasonable price. Oh, and we're a traveling band, so we can bring the bluegrass wedding to you, no matter where you are.

Your own microphone for making toasts, announcements and things you might not ordinarily say in a less festive mood. This mic can be placed near your table or on stage with the band or wherever – we’re flexible.

Complementary DJ service: The High 48s have a large library of recorded music that can played during dinner, for dancing after our final set, or whenever. We also have a CD player and a line into our sound system for an iPod. If you’d like to put together your own mix CD or iPod playlist, be our guest!

Special requests: In addition to having a large repertoire of bluegrass and classic country songs at the ready, we also take requests. Got a special song you want to hear? We've done special requests at weddings for everything from the Dixie Chicks' "Cowboy Take Me Away" to Hava Nagila. Just ask!

Also available

Wedding Ceremony music: The High 48s are available individually or as a group for ceremony music. In addition to bluegrass and old-time music, members of the 48s can play traditional Irish, Scandinavian, Russian and Jewish music. Just ask – chances are, we can pull it off.

Square dances and contra dances: The High 48s work with a handful of square-dance callers who are masters of crowd control. This is a great way to get everyone on the dance floor after dinner!

High 48s CDs: We offer a bulk discount on our CDs, if you’d like to include them in gift bags for your wedding guests.
